Starter Guide

Universal Tower Defense
Beginner's Guide

From your first summon to conquering the Virtual Realm. Learn how to maximize your gems, build the perfect team, and avoid rookie mistakes.

Day 1: Getting Started & Free Resources

When you first load into Universal Tower Defense, do NOT jump straight into a match. There are tons of free resources waiting for you that will give you a massive head start.

Release Event & Daily Login

Check the "Release Event" tab immediately. Logging in for 7 days grants a powerful starter unit and gems. Also, don't miss the Daily Rewards (resets at 7 PM EST) for up to 25 Rerolls on Day 7.

Redeem Codes

Run to the Goku NPC in the lobby (behind spawn) to redeem codes. This gives you instant Gems and Trait Rerolls. Check our Codes Page for the latest list.

Summoning Guide: Who to Pull?

With your pockets full of Gems from codes, head to the Summon area. As a new player, your Mythic Pity is only 100 (normally 400), making it very easy to get your first carry unit.

Recommended Starter Mythics
Kenpachi / Ace / Genos:

Excellent DPS units that can carry you through the entire Story Mode.

Avoid Amiku (First Pity):

She is a support unit. While good later, you need raw damage first to clear stages.

Pro Tip: Don't ignore Legendaries and Epics! Units like Speedwagon (Money Farm), Zorus, and Rock Lee are incredibly useful. You will also need duplicates for the Etherealization system.

Unit Progression & Stats

Stat Points System

Unlike traditional TD games, leveling up doesn't automatically boost all stats. You get Points that you must manually allocate into:

  • Damage: Raw power.
  • SPA (Cooldown): Attack speed.
  • Range: Attack distance.
💡 Tip: Prioritize Cooldown (SPA) for support/stun units, and Damage for your main carry.

Rolling Traits

Use your Reroll Tokens at the Traits NPC. Do not waste rolls on Farm units early on. Focus on getting a Mythic trait for your main DPS.

  • Ruler: The best trait in the game (+200% DMG).
  • Duelist/Sacred: Great alternatives for DPS.

What to Play First?

Progression Roadmap
  1. 1

    Introduction Quest

Check your Quest Menu -> Personal tab. Complete the "Introduction" quest first. It guides you through the basics and gives free rewards.

  2. 2

    Clear Story Mode

Blaze through the Story Mode stages. Ignore other modes for now. Completing the story unlocks Challenges and is required for evolving units.

  3. 3

    Daily Challenges

Once unlocked, do your Daily Quest Challenge every day. It gives 5-20 Rerolls and evolution items. Bring a friend for the "Friend Bonus" drop rate boost!

End Game: Relics & Virtual Realm

After finishing the story, you will unlock the Relic System. Relics are armor pieces (Top and Bottom) that give massive stat boosts.

  • Relics: Equip two of the same set (e.g., Berserk Shinagami Top + Bottom) to activate a Set Bonus like +5% Damage.
  • Virtual Realm: This is the hardest content. It's a 30-wave mode with random buff/debuff cards. Clearing this drops Accessories and the exclusive unit Scarlet Maid.
Gold Merchant Tip: Once you are rich in late game, visit the Gold Merchant next to the summon area. You can buy evolution fragments and 5 Rerolls daily with Gold. Huge time saver!
